Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Start by toasting the cornmeal in a dry skillet over medium heat. Stir constantly to prevent burning until the cornmeal turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. This process should take about 5-7 minutes. Once toasted, remove the cornmeal from the heat and let it cool.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed. Set the mixture aside for later use.
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Gradually add the toasted cornmeal to the boiling water, stirring continuously to avoid any lumps from forming. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the cornmeal to cook thoroughly.
  • After simmering the cornmeal mixture, gradually add the cacao mixture to the saucepan. Stir well to ensure it's fully incorporated. Continue to simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
