Ingredients

  • 10-12 corn tortillas
  • 1 pound of ground beef or chicken or a combination of both
  • 1 diced onion
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese
  • Oil for frying
  • Toothpicks or kitchen string

Instructions

Brown the meat

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or chicken over medium heat until fully cooked. Add in the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.

Season the meat

  • Add in the chili powder, cumin, and salt, and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Prepare the tortillas

  • Heat the tortillas in the microwave for 30 seconds or until soft and pliable. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each tortilla, along with a sprinkle of shredded cheese.

Roll up the tortillas

  • Roll up the tortillas tightly around the filling, making sure to tuck in the sides as you go. Secure each taco with a toothpick or tie with kitchen string.

Fry the tacos

  • Heat about 1 inch of oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tacos to the skillet, making sure they're not touching each other. Fry the tacos for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
