Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 15 ounce container ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil.
  • Cook the ziti pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, and eggs. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Add the cooked ziti to the skillet with the sausage sauce, and stir to combine.
  • Pour half of the ziti mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread the ricotta cheese mixture over the top. Then, add the remaining ziti mixture on top of the cheese mixture.
  • Sprinkle a little extra mozzarella cheese on top of the ziti, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil, and serve hot.
