Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tomato ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 Cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Liquid smoke optional, for that smoky touch

Instructions

  • Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, yellow mustard, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Step 2: Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Step 3: Once the sauce starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Simmering will allow the flavors to meld together beautifully.
  • Step 4: If you prefer a smoky taste, add the liquid smoke and stir it in. This step is optional but highly recommended for that authentic BBQ flavor.
  • Step 5: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool down to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer it to an airtight container, and refrigerate for at least a couple of hours before using. This resting time will further enhance the flavors.
