Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 eggs lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the melted butter, beaten eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the milk to the batter, stirring until it is smooth and well-mixed.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake the cake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, carefully invert the cake onto a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  • Once the cake is cool, you can serve it as is or add your favorite toppings. Some popular choices include whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of chocolate ganache.
