Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch (20 cm) cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mixing well after each addition.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once the cake has cooled, it's time to get creative with the decoration! You can frost it with your favorite frosting, or add some whipped cream and fresh berries for a lighter touch. You can even decorate it with fondant or candy to create a whimsical scene, just like Amelia Bedelia would!
